This bibliography is dedicated to Weldon B. Hester, the Monitor's researcher of researchers.
Numerous current and former staff members of The Mariners' Museum participated in this project. Benn Trask, former librarian and curator, analyzed and annotated most of the entries for the bibliography. Mary Dykas typed drafts of the original manuscript and Susannah Livingston edited the original document. Chris E. Higgins, former assistant librarian, identified and organized entries in the Records of the Union and Confederate Navies in the War of the Rebellion. Wes Gould verified items held by the Library and recorded call numbers. Liz Provenson added call numbers to appropriate entries, and assisted with overall formatting of the document. Mark Danley verified and organized the government document citations. Cathy Williamson identified titles published since 1996 and proofread and edited the final bibliography. Staff at the Monitor National Marine Sanctuary provided critical assistance. Dina Hill, former education coordinator, assisted throughout the entire project, clarifying details of articles and news stories and proofreading the original manuscript. Jeff Johnston, program specialist, helped resolve many Monitor-related questions.
Alice R. Cotten provided important assistance with research on the North Carolina Collection, housed at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Alan Zoellner, government documents librarian in the Earl Gregg Swem Library at The College of William and Mary, supplied important documents.
