Donate Now and Help Us Make the Kresge Challenge a Success
The Kresge Foundation has awarded the Museum a $600,000 challenge grant, which we receive only if we raise an additional $3 million in private funds by the conclusion of the campaign in December 2007. It’s an all or nothing challenge, which makes it all the more essential that you show your support now by making a financial gift to capital campaign!
Your support will help to maintain the USS Monitor Center as one of our country’s premier Civil War attractions. Please give generously! Help share this important story with the next generation of Americans. |

Learn More About Our Mission
On March 9, 2007, 145 years after the historic battle between the USS Monitor and the CSS Virginia, the USS Monitor Center opened at The Mariners’ Museum as one of our country’s premier Civil War attractions, housing actual artifacts from the two ships that changed the way navies fought forever!
A dynamic interactive exhibition brings to life the fascinating stories of the ships and the men who built and fought on them, and recounts the exploits of the men and women of NOAA and the US Navy, as they fought to recover the Monitor’s precious artifacts from the ocean floor.
The Center’s dramatic $30 million, 63,500-square-foot facility is an enthralling adventure for students and families, young and old alike. In the conservation labs, visitors can see the process of preserving very fragile artifacts. The library and web site provide rich resources for historical and scholarly research.
